JavaScript Programming

JavaScript is the glue that holds a website together. Without JavaScript things like roll over images, field validation, Ajax, and DHTML would not be possible. JavaScript itself is a very powerful programming language but by combining it with CSS, XML or a server side language like PHP you can use JavaScript to built a lot of functionality into a website. Ajax is nothing more than a duet between PHP and JavaScript.

At WebDuck Designs we write our own JavaScript code for every application specific to the individual needs of the client. We realize that other talented JavaScript programmers have created an abundance of useful JavaScript code libraries to use however we have found that most code libraries tend to use more code then necessary to accomplish a task. The reason is because code libraries try to take into account everything so they can be universally used. For normal web applications a little extra JavaScript code will not make much of a difference whereas for a website that is built search engine optimized it’s important to pay attention to the code to content ratio and not use any unnecessary code. For these same reasons WebDuck Designs does not use any code that is written by Adobe Dreamweaver. Although Dreamweaver written JavaScript is functional, it tends to be written in a manner that makes it difficult to modify, adds the code within the head of a web page, and writes more lines of code then necessary.

The programmers and website builders at WebDuck Designs have been building JavaScript based applications for years. We have written code for mortgage calculators, contact page validation, and even use JavaScript to run the navigation of our custom administrative panel we utilize in all our content managed websites.

If you need something written in JavaScript give us a call or send us an email and will be more than happy to take a look at the project for you and give you a fair and accurate quote.

Here are some examples of JavaScript programming done by WebDuck Designs:

  • National Health Council – The side navigation and the top horizontal navigation is actually a combination of JavaScript and PHP otherwise known as Ajax. JavaScript is also the main component that makes the small events calendar on the bottom left of the website function.

  • Pieces of History – The navigation on the left side of the page actually changes the main image in the large image area each time you roll over a link. Each link is represented by a separate image. This affect is known as DHTML which is nothing more than JavaScript code manipulating CSS formatting.

  • LiveHealtyToday Store – The LiveHealthyToday.org only vitamin store contains a specialized product search that allows you to choose a Department followed by a Category and if possible a Subcategory of the chosen category. Without using JavaScript and PHP ( Ajax ) the categories and subcategories menus would be populated with all categories and all subcategories as opposed to just the categories and subcategories assigned to an individual department. This custom search feature can be seen on just about every page just below the main image. If you click the “Advanced Product Search” option you can view an even more complex version of the above described Ajax menu.

JavaScript is a very useful programming language and as you can see from the examples listed above without it the web would be full of boring websites lacking the ability to interact with site visitors.
